There aren’t many unique instruments, or, well, I haven’t thought too much into unique instruments in the setting of this world other then some interesting mechanical music constructions in Clubs and the capitol.
Traditional Wyndr music involves a lot of wind instruments, and stays low. A lot of imitation of the winds formed the melodies of early music, and tradition keeps variations of the melodies going.
Ruan has a large variety. The nomads from before the unification of Ruan had a lot of drums and string instruments, which were spread into Hearts/Diamonds/Clubs as they settled down. Clubs has a lot of strings, and developed the HoR version of pianos and harpsichords. Spades shares a lot of the same musical influence as Wyndr, so lots of wind instruments. The fiddle is incredibly popular in Diamonds with the bustling coastal cities and ships, and music is frequently found in the streets. Clubs and Hearts tend to have music found in the fields and orchards, songs with a beat and drums that the rural areas work to in the day, and dance to at night.
Before the Roese deaths, the children picked up some of the instruments of the Cards. Davena had learned piano and harpsichord, Myrd was trained on the violin but loves to pick up a fiddle, and Alyn had learned several of the wind instruments and songs that spread between the Spades and Wyndr borders.
Roran was absolutely horrible at every instrument he touched, but that never stopped him from playing with a siblings instrument just to make them laugh from how bad he was at them (and singing. The singing made something cringe worthy worse and funnier)
Its not really important to the plot, but something I know about Alice that she doesn’t is that she can play several instruments: flute, clarinet, and a fiddle.
The Queen of Hearts could build a harpsichord. Berwyn knows quite a few wind intsruments.
