Bookbinding stream?

tackylampshade:

I’m going to be binding a book tonight. Would anyone be interested in watching if I set up a stream?

Things to look forward to:

  • trimming paper to the right size
  • folding pages
  • gluing tapes
  • poking holes in paper
  • sewing pages into a signature
  • cutting out the binders board pieces for the cover/box while trying to not cut off my fingers
  • cutting bookcloth
  • glue. glue everywhere.
  • ?????
  • book!

I’m actually looking forward to how this book turns out- it is a wedding guest book with the theme “brown paper packages wrapped up in string” for the appearance, and the inside pages feature some of the bride and groom’s favorite things.

So I obviously didn’t stream, but I’ve been taking a bunch of progress pictures, and I really think this is the nicest book I’ve made. I’m trying a few new techniques with it, and the product so far is really neat.

I’ll make a full post with pictures once I install the signature into the cover/box tomorrow.

The past few weeks I’ve been working on a ton of stuff for my portfolio and my Senior BFA show. My deadlines were all last week, so I was able to spend some time putting this pair of guestbooks together for the show this week. They are made to go with out flyer cards, and each have a flyer on the inside of the front cover.
Supplies used: Acrylic, paper, Archival PVA, printer paper signature, bookcloth, davey board, PVA Jade, linen thread.
If you happen to be in the Long Beach area next week, check out In Bloom, CSULB’s BFA Illustration and Animation Senior Show. There is so much fantastic art that is going to be there it will not be something to miss!

That book I was just working on. I’ve made several in this style before (with the floppy case and the robot accordion) and have a few more I can make.

I’ve just never taken nice pictures of them before.

BTW, I’ll probably be selling these at Fanime again.

I always forget how relaxing sewing together a book is for me until I put together a new one. I don’t know why, but it feels so therapeutic.
