Here’s a concept sketch for a new character- a wild-child of sorts that I have a short story idea for. The tough part for this is designing the child’s companion- I’m not that good at designing non-human characters.

My work is doing a Hobby Day this weekend and I threw together a quick paper self-portrait to stick next to the paper pieces I’m bringing in.

More Inktober! India Ink and Watercolor.

I’ve been playing with the idea of a card design with these two characters for awhile due some things in how their stories overlap as Princess Davena’s comes to an end and the Queen of Hearts’ story begins.

I wish the Interludes that they interact during weren’t so far away, but there is so much neat stuff that happens before then to get through first.

I’d forgotten how much I like working with brush and ink, and Inktober has certainly reminded me.

Another Inktober piece!
This is a drawing of an original costume design I made a few years back for a Chinese Zodiac group- I made the Snake. The dress/tail was easily 30ft long, if not longer (we never did measure it).

Here’s a quick drawing I did during a company meeting today for Inktober!

My personal theory for Boxtrolls is that Winnie tries out troll fashion and receives the name “Bones” as a nickname,

No one has any idea how excited I am to find a frame that fits these three. They no longer have to live in a shoebox with me terrified of them getting damaged when I take them places!
Of course, I do need to do some stuff with the frame before they are good to go (I had to take out the inner frame that holds the glass in place in order for them to fit without crushing, so I need to fix the glass in place and add a black back piece that doesn’t leave gaps) BUT THEY HAVE A FRAME. More pictures of them at my store!

I haven’t drawn these two doofuses in quite awhile.

I must say, I understand drawing them a lot better now than I did while I was trying to animate them in 2011. I’m thinking of doing an unrelated-to-their-story storyboard sequence with them for CTN.
And eventually finally re-figuring out how to get their original story to work.

Artist Asks!

dollyriot:

  1. Do you prefer traditional drawing, or digital?
  2. How long have you been drawing?
  3. How many classes have you taken?
  4. Do you have a DeviantArt, personal website, or art blog?
  5. What’s your favorite thing to draw?
  6. What’s your least favorite thing to draw?
  7. How often do you use references?
  8. Do you draw professionally, or just for fun?
  9. How much time do you spend drawing on an average day?
  10. Are you confident about your art?
  11. How many art-related blogs do you follow?
  12. Is it okay for people to ask you about your process?
  13. Do you prefer to keep your art personal, or do you like drawing things for other people?
  14. Do you ever collaborate with others?
  15. How long does an average piece take you to complete?
  16. Do you draw more today than you did in the past, or do you draw less?
  17. Do you think you’re justified in giving other people art advice?
  18. What are you currently trying to improve on?
  19. What is the most difficult thing for you to draw?
  20. What is the easiest thing for you to draw?
  21. Do you like to challenge yourself?
  22. Are you confident that you’re improving steadily?
  23. Do you draw more fanart, or more original art?
  24. Do you feel jealous when you see other people’s art, or inspired? (Be honest!)
  25. Do you like to draw in silence, or with music?
  26. For digital artists: what program(s) do you use?
  27. For digital artists: how many layers does a typical piece require?
  28. For traditional artists: what medium do you like most? (Pencil, charcoals, etc)
  29. For traditional artists: How do you usually start on a big piece? (Light sketch, colored lead, sketchpaper, etc)
  30. What inspires you to not just make art, but to be a better artist?

I’ll give this a try if anyone wants to know answers to any of these questions.

I’m working on a new paper cutout piece and found the traced bits from my Labyrinth piece.
This paper makes no sense to anyone else, but without this stage my paper pieces would not look anything like how I want them to come out.

My silly thing to be proud of for this next page is not doing single-line-all-teeth. Look! No dentist fused his teeth together so he couldn’t floss! (Which, to speak from experience, SUCKS. Thank goodness for the competent dentist I have now who fixed it for me.)

I LIEK TRAINS
And redesigning things. And I’m kinda listening to this nonstop right now. (just why is an 80’s rock musical so addicting to listen to???)
